New Year’s Resolution

Happy New Year!

My New Year’s resolution is simply not to make any more New Year’s Resolution.  I’m very confident that this is the first one I will actually keep.

A Resolution is simply a firm decision to do or not to do something. So, in other words, I am making a firm decision not to make any firm decisions!

History of New Year’s Resolutions

Most people make resolutions to change something they dislike about their life.  There is only one thing I dislike about my life, but I know that I am powerless to change it..

Sin has infested my whole life.  It infects every nook and cranny.  It is a constant companion, but can knock me down out of the blue if I am not paying attention.  It ruins every relationship I have and perverts my thoughts into unspeakable rants against others.  It elevates my ego into thinking I am better than those around me. It creates illusions of being important and irreplaceable.  It forms into lust at an attractive women, envy at a coworkers good fortune or unhealthy comparisons of myself with others around me.

It grabs hold of me like a disease, the disease of ME

But like the word SIN leaves me broken and disgusted with myself, another word appears.

That wonderful word that simply tells me that, yes, all of the above is true,

I AM FORGIVEN!  The thoughts, words and deeds will continue every second till the day I am called home, but there will be NO punishment,

NO Condemnation!

Jesus came into this world on Christmas Day and gave humanity the ultimate gift.  He gave his life for the fulfillment of God’s resolution in Genesis CH 3:15 (ESV)

I will put enmity between you and the woman,

   and between your offspring[a] and her offspring;

he shall bruise your head,

and you shall bruise his heel.”

Jesus conquered sin by taking away it’s consequence.

My Resolution this year?

Simple, Live like I have been FORGIVEN!

Dear Jesus,

We are sinners, pure and simple.  We have no excuses for our behavior.  Please forgive us, not because we deserve it, but simply because we believe the Bible to be true.  Bless this New Year. Amen
